1. Our hearts won't know peace outside of relationship with God. Accept that He created you to have a relationship with Himself
2. Your personal selfishness (called sin in the Bible) is the biggest hindrance to knowing God. Sin breaks God's laws for life. Admit your selfishness.
3. Forgiveness, God's forgiveness, is the only remedy for sin. You can't wish or work it away. Concede that you need God's pardon.
4. Jesus died on the cross to be the atoning sacrifice for all our sins. See that you too can benefit from His selfless death.
5. Transfer your faith from your own efforts to please God to Jesus' loving Salvation. He offers it to you today.
6. Pray this simple prayer:
Heavenly Father,
I accept that I'm a selfish sinner. I have broken many of and the spirit
of all Your laws. I thank you for still loving me despite my
self-centeredness. Thank you for the cross and that it offers me
forgiveness for all that I though, said or done to hurt You. I now
transfer my faith to Jesus and I invite You, by Your Holy Spirit to come
and live in my life. Make my heart Your home. I will not go to sleep
today until I have told someone of what I've just prayed. Please guide
me into a circle of friends that also know You.
Amen.
Lastly: 7. Start reading the New Testament. (Begin midway in the 1st chapter of the first book: Matthew) Read about 10 or 12 verses a day. Write down what you discover there. Is there any message in the verses for you? You'll be amazed how it speaks to you. The reason we suggest you write it down is that we have found that after a few weeks you will notice that there's a personal trend in what God is saying to you. It's the secret miracle of the Bible. God uses it over a few weeks to tell you things about Himself, yourself and the world around you.
