United States of Europe

In 1974 I commented to an English group: "I believe there will one day be a United States of Europe." Mirthfully they explained to me why the U.K. would never join such a union. I was asked if I hadn't paid attention in history class. How come I didn't know of the ancient distrust and centuries of war that keeps Europe divided.

My English friends feel differently about my predictions today. Events are on the move on the continent. A look at article 3a of the treaty establishing The European Economic Community makes one realize that after this is done there will be very little left to do before declaring a U.S. of E. Article 8 says: "Every person holding the nationality of a Member State shall be a citizen of the Union." They are aiming at 10 regions throughout Europe linking strong and weak countries together. They have a sitting parliament that meets in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg. Their sessions are translated into 10 major European languages. The EEC court meets at The Hague.

Some claim it's just a loose agreement with no legislative implications. Article 210 of the treaty says, "The Community shall have legal personality." The EEC is establishing a common market and an economic and monetary union. The Euro dollars are in circulation. They end article 2 of the treaty declaring an aim of "economic and social cohesion and solidarity among Member States." When that solidarity becomes a military joint-command it'll be time to take notice. The Eurofighter was designed in the 90's and is being built by various countries to serve in all the air forces of Europe.

What seemed impossible 3 decades ago is a present reality. Europe is uniting. Please don't think I came upon this belief by astute political observation, luck or some premonition of the future. It was because I believe in Bible Prophecy.

In 600 BC King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon was told that the final world empire before God intervenes to set up an eternal kingdom, would be both strong and weak. It will be like Iron mixed with clay. You can find that prediction in Daniel 2:42-45.

Daniel saw the overthrow of Babylon by the Medo-Persian Empire - (coincidentally an empire with 2 arms?). Preceding the birth of Jesus 2 more empires would sweep through the area: Greece and Rome. Before its decline in Europe the Roman Empire would divide into east and West. Two legs, mmm? Suddenly Israel's history was halted by an international dispersion. It is as though God's hourglass for history was halted. In 1948 they returned to the land and in 1967 regained control of Jerusalem. The sands began to run again and in 1957 the EEC was established (if you discount the first step in 1951 with the European Coal and Steel Community).

Barring premature death, it's reasonable that I will see the U.S.E. come about in my lifetime. The world's final empire - one of iron mixed with clay is about to be constituted. The Bible predicts that out of it will come a great statesman. He will bring a false peace to the world. He will be a gifted orator. Peace is coming to the Middle East and with it a new Jewish temple will arise. Treaties will be signed by his manipulative hand. Lies will be given a positive spin. Yet even if it takes 3 lifetimes, I'm ready.

Daniel says this world kingdom will come to a disastrous end when it is smashed by the coming of an eternal kingdom. The imagery is a great rock hewn from the mountain of God. When you read those verses did you notice how clear the prediction was? It either will or won't happen. I believe I've met the Coming King. I eagerly await the fulfillment of these promises. You can be just as certain. Ask me how.
